7×7 List: Apple Fritter At Bob’s Donuts
Item: #80 Apple fritter
Where: Bob’s Donuts on Polk between Sacramento & Clay
The apple fritter from Bob’s Donuts is your standard apple fritter. It’s pretty big, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, has bits and pieces of apple, and is glazed all over. It looks, feels, smells, and tastes like an apple fritter should, which means really good. Unlike most other donuts, apple fritters are actually better when they’re cold and not fresh out of the oven so you can grab one from Bob’s any time of the day since they are open 24 hours. For everything else, the best time to head to Bob’s is after 10pm when production starts. Stuff that doesn’t need to rise, like buttermilk bars and cake donuts, are available fresh right after 10pm. For stuff like raised donuts, the best time to go is after 1am.
Does it belong on the list? No. It’s good, but not that good. If you’re going to make a Bob’s Donuts run, go there for something awesome. That something awesome is the giant raised glazed donut that they make after 12am. It’s exactly what it sounds like, a big ass donut that fits in a whole box and it’s only about $5. Do whatever it takes to give you some late night munchies and head straight here for the colossal sized donut.
