42nd Annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival

09Apr09

This weekend, April 11-22, is the 42nd Annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. Over 20,000 people attend this even every year, and it’s a great way to spend the day with the whole family.

The Street Fair will include a food bazaar, featuring traditional Japanese cuisine and cooking demonstrations, a Japanese traditional arts and crafts fair, and a children’s village. Entertainment stages will feature performances by Japanese classical and folk dancers, martial artists, taiko drummers and others. Companies sponsor a high profile street fair area, a street fair booth, one of two entertainment stages or a combination of these.

The whole festival is actually two consecutive weekends, culminating with the Grand Parade that begins in Civic Center and ends in Japantown. The best part about going to the festival? You can walk around with beer.
